Vehicles are a "never win" situation. If you keep the Regal and it keeps on chuggin' reliably for you, you'll pat yourself on the back for not buying the G8. If you keep the Regal and it starts throwing a mechanical fit and costs you a bunch of time/money, you're going to kick yourself in the ass for not selling it and buying the G8. "I could have made 5 care payments with the money I just sunk into this old car........." That's the game we play with older cars, and you'll rarely ever win.
I'm at the same situation with my Z71. At 166,000, its probably getting ripe. However its mechanically rock solid and to date has never let me down. Its paid for, and costs a whopping $40 a month to insure. So, do I keep it and drive it every day to keep the miles off my new diesel and hope nothing goes wrong? Or do I sell it, and put that money toward payment on a truck with 10,000 miles that should not cost me any maintenance for several years? If I keep it and it keeps running, life is good. If I keep it and the trans goes out, now my truck that was worth $4500 is worth about $1000. Always a gamble.......... For what its worth, I agree with your decision to not buy the new car yet. Being debt free is a wonderful feeling! Its always easy to go out and buy something any time you want to. |

As long as you do the work on the regal yourself definitely keep it. If your having a shop do the work I could see it getting way to expensive quick. I would just keep the regal and run it though... You probably wouldn't get enough on it trade in wise to justify now versus later...
I desperately want one of them there G8 GT's. Talk about a sweet ride!

Nothing to add, except: I AGREE!
I'm actually really glad you made the decision you have, Jeremy. There are way better things you can do with all the money you'd be spending on that fancy piece of transportation. It's like I've been tellin' you all along... call me weird, but I get a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment out of knowing I don't owe anything on any of my vehicles, and they're all exactly the way I want them (nearly... most of the time... anyway...). So, kudos to you my friend!

I really want a G8 GXP. I was planning on buying a 2010 model. Then GM in their infinite wisdom killed the one car that i liked. I hope they convert it or a form of it to a chevy but now i am not sure what I will do. I just picked up a 2003 tahoe z71 for $8K with 80K on the clock. Added third row seats and now my wife is happy. (2000 impala is gone. good bye to the green monster). So now I have a 2003 disco with 72000 miles (paid for) a 2003 tahoe with 80K and a payment of 160 a month for a bit over a year. and a 2000 VW jetta with 135k that is also paid for. I have new car itis and need to avoid the stealerships. I also have suffered as u have jeremy. If u r not dumping money in the regal keep it going. The jetta has been paid for since 06 and it has needed struts/shocks and a clutch. total cost $1500 or 3 payments on a G8 or similar car. so three payments over 4 years. I cant really complain

I want a G8 GXP really really bad. I swear, if I were not in school I would pull the trigger and buy one. It would be a very bad financial decision for me to do so right now though
![]() But a Black GXP, Chrome wheels, tinted windows, black and red leather, LS3 and a 6 speed manual...Mmmmmmm They are so kick ass. 13 second 1/4 mile, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. A friend of mine here in Lansing has an 08 IIRC. Its only a GT but man is it sweet. I can't wait for him to get it out so I can go for a ride and drive it. He said its so much fun searching for some Mustangs and such to race ![]() ![]()

That be the one! Awesome car.
I finally dropped my ex-wife off of my health insurance today, and am saving $270/month by doing that. Talk about tempting to just move forward on that loan. Buuuut, the prospect of eliminating all debt first is still the more wise decision. The Dirty Regal lives on. |

I'm sure that is tempting!
But that $270/month will go a long ways in helping eliminate your debt. Not knowing what your financial situation is, I don't know if you are planning on using all of that to pay towards debt, or going to save all of it. I would say its not a bad idea (if you can afford it and not already doing so) to put part of that into a "rainy day" fund. If the "Dirty Regal" does happen to need a repair, you will have a little financial cushion that may prevent you from being strapped for cash. Also, I know you said your Regal has peeling paint and stuff, have you thought about a quick, cheap paint job? If you plan on getting rid of it in a few years, take it to Macco! Or you could get really cheap and get a roller, some flat black exterior paint and go to town!

@ rattle cannin it!I just want to make the right financial choices. Now that I'm on my own, I can't continue a path of financial irresponsibility as I have in the past. I want to change all that, and buying a new car right now just doesn't make any sense. I appreciate all the advice guys! |

Yea, just your favorite pic to use in the calender. IIRC most of them have been 3000x2250 or so.
You can send a couple if you like and I can make something work ![]() Thanks! |

Those GXPs are badass! I got one from Hertz once when I was out in Cali. Nice and stable even at 120.

The Grand Prix GXP has the 303 hp LS4 5.3 V8, with Displacement On Demand. Runs very strong and gets pretty good mileage so far....when I can keep my foot outta it!
